Master Teachers Training 2022: Course for Global English Competitiveness Development – Luzon 1 Leg held at Mariano Marcos State University, City of Batac, Ilocos Norte last July 26-28, 2022 The National Roadmap for Global Competitiveness in Communication Skills (NRGCCS) Project was launched by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), alongside government, academe, and industry partners in 2020.
Part of the short-term targets of the NRGCCS Project is to further raise the level of awareness and adoption of Philippine higher education institutions to international standards and teaching techniques and develop our competitive advantage in this area to contribute to our progress towards a globally competitive knowledge economy. Its main goal is adopting the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for Languages as a recognized metric for communicative competitiveness. In line with the program’s objectives, the Master Teachers Training 2022: Course for Global English Competitiveness Development was launched. It is a three-day intensive master teacher training in communicative teaching with CFR training and orientation course designed for teachers and school administrators. Spearheaded by the CHED-International Affairs Staff (IAS) and the National Roadmap for Global Competitiveness in Communication Skills (NRGCCS) Technical Working Group (TWG), the first of the 4-part event (Luzon 1 leg) was held at the Mariano Marcos State University, City of Batac, Ilocos Norte last July 26-28, 2022. Mr. Rex Wallen Tan, GAIN Director and Ms. Angela N. Concepcion, Training and Development Manager of Hopkins International Partners both represented the Government Academe Industry Network (GAIN) Inc. in the NRGCCS Technical Working group as Guest Speakers / Facilitators. GAIN Coordinator Ms. LA Ferenal-Marquez also hosted the 3-day program. More than 50 delegates attended the training course, with the objective to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the EAQUALS Core Inventory and CFR in the institutional direction, curriculum alignment; apply the EAQUALS Core Inventory in communicative curriculum (syllabus) and sample unit/s (Theme, Grammar, Vocabulary, program outcomes (OBE) and learning objectives); create CFR aligned curriculum considering the scope and sequence of units to get someone from Zero - A1, A1 to A2, A2 to B1, B1 to B2 (e.g., interactive, curated OERs); and apply communicative teaching strategies appropriate with the CFR level – aligned curriculum and instruction.
